The University of Lodz, as a first university in Poland, granted a honorary doctorate to Lady Margaret Thatcher, who served as a British PM for more than 11 years.

The official gala for this occasion will be held in Lodz on  October 2009.  Unfortunately, due to poor health, Lady Thatcher shall not be present, however her speech will be delivered through online connection.

The "Iron Lady" will be honoured following an application of three faculties of the University of Lodz. The Project Lodz Foundation initiated the process, which has been reviewed by professors: Tomasz Domanski, Zbigniew Rau and Janusz Swierkocki of the University of Lodz, Bogdan Szlachta of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow and Jan Winnicki of the College of Informatics and Management in Rzeszow.
